GAME, SET AND MATCH! – ZVEREV 6-4 6-1 6-1 DAVIDOVICH FOKINA. Zverev sweeps a backhand up the line and easily breaks again to claim a very straight-forward in just one hour and 36 minutes. The German No.6 seed wasn’t at his best but didn’t need to be against a sub-par opponent. Zverev knows he’ll need to raise it a touch in his maiden semi at this tournament when he’ll lock horns with Medvedev or Tsitsipas.
ZVEREV 6-4 6-1 5-1 DAVIDOVICH FOKINA. The Spaniard plays a wonderful opening point but looks shattered after it. Zverev motors back, lashing down his third ace and crunching a drive volley to move within a game of victory.

BREAK! – ZVEREV 6-4 6-1 4-1 DAVIDOVICH FOKINA. Almost time to start checking out of the hotel. ADF splutters through another service game and all too easily chokes up the double break.

ZVEREV 6-4 6-1 3-1 DAVIDOVICH FOKINA. No concerns whatsoever there. Zverev is just too strong. ADF is miles off his best level today and it can’t all be down to fatigue. He’s lost his focus too easily. What was his game-plan? It’s blockbusting attempts and drop shots, but little else.
ZVEREV 6-4 6-1 2-1 DAVIDOVICH FOKINA. The Spaniard gets on the board and halts a torrid run of games against him. Can he at least make this set competitive or will Zverev saunter to the finish line?
ZVEREV 6-4 6-1 2-0 DAVIDOVICH FOKINA. Sascha backs up the break with a highly composed hold to 15. The semis are growing on his horizon.

BREAK! – ZVEREV 6-4 6-1 1-0 DAVIDOVICH FOKINA. It keeps getting worse for ADF. It’s a new set, but same old story. He unloads a sweet crosscourt backhand and then a sumptuous drop shot to fend off double break point but undoes all that hard work with a double fault and a rushed forehand into the net. Zverev remains in cruise-control without playing anywhere near his highest level.

SET! - ZVEREV 6-4 6-1 DAVIDOVICH FOKINA. The No.6 seed is a set away from the last four. He hits back from 15-30 to serve out Set 2 with an ace down the T and a razor-sharp wrong-footing backhand.

BREAK! – ZVEREV 6-4 5-1 DAVIDOVICH FOKINA. The errors are leaking heavily off the Fokina forehand. He looks like a man who feels his fate has already been sealed. Another tired-looking shot, this time off the backhand, coughs up another break. Sascha will now serve for a two-set lead.
ZVEREV 6-4 4-1 DAVIDOVICH FOKINA. There’s been plenty of angry muttering and glares towards his team. To be fair to them, ADF is the one continually going for ridiculous winners on the run. Zverev remains calm at the other end and goes on to consolidate despite not having it all his own way.

BREAK! – ZVEREV 6-4 3-1 DAVIDOVICH FOKINA. The Spaniard is his own worst enemy as he goes for two blockbusting forehands that miss down both wings – and Zverev takes charge. ADF had looked good with a drop shot and full stretch volley at the net but too often he has struggled to string a consistent run of points together.
ZVEREV 6-4 2-1 DAVIDOVICH FOKINA. Another love hold. This is more like what we were expecting in the first set. It’s looking more and more like that was a missed opportunity for Davidovich Fokina too.
ZVEREV 6-4 1-1 DAVIDOVICH FOKINA. Respite! The 22-year-old Spaniard drags himself to a hold to 30 with a routine smash to finish. He desperately needed that.
ZVEREV 6-4 1-0 DAVIDOVICH FOKINA. The danger for ADF is that Zverev will now relax and serve much better. That will make already a tall order even tougher. The German looks sharp as he kicks off this second set with an ominous love hold.

SET! - ZVEREV 6-4 DAVIDOVICH FOKINA. It is quite apt that such a strange set of serving ends with another break. It’s an absolute disaster for ADF. He can’t buy a first serve and double faults to cough up the set point after making 30-30 with a humongous forehand. A weak crosscourt backhand then limps into the net and he’s does well not to follow through with his threat to smash his racket.
