Good evening and welcome to Eurosport's LIVE coverage of the Roland Garros men's singles third round match between Dominik Koepfer and Roger Federer. Federer was a bit of an unknown quantity coming into the French Open, but the 20-times Grand Slam champion has been very impressive in the matches he has played so far.

KOEPFER 6-7, 7-6, 6-7, 5-7 FEDERER
Game, set, match Federer! The 39-year-old didn't play his best tennis, there were a number of dips across the match, but he has the win in four sets and a place in the fourth round of Roland Garros to go with it!
23:41
Sir Andy's thoughts...
23:40
KOEPFER 5-6 FEDERER* (6-7, 7-6, 6-7)
Big break! That's one of the best games Federer has played in the whole match, certainly in terms of returning, and it sees him make the breakthrough! He will now serve for a place in the fourth round!
23:36
*KOEPFER 5-5 FEDERER (6-7, 7-6, 6-7)
An important hold for Federer otherwise we would have been heading into a fifth set. Federer misjudged a pick-up volley in that game, but got away with it as he holds for 5-5.
23:32
KOEPFER 5-4 FEDERER* (6-7, 7-6, 6-7)
Federer is going to have to stay in this fourth set. A love hold from Koepfer who isn't going away. What resolve from the German. He's played some exceptional stuff.
23:30
*KOEPFER 4-4 FEDERER (6-7, 7-6, 6-7)
Pressure on Koepfer now as Federer moves within two games of a place in the fourth round. A break of serve at this point could be fatal for the German who has played so well.
23:25
KOEPFER 4-4 FEDERER* (6-7, 7-6, 6-7)
It's all very tight at the moment. Not much at all between these two players as Koepfer holds once again to make it 4-4 in this fourth set. No end in sight with this match.
23:22
*KOEPFER 3-3 FEDERER (6-7, 7-6, 6-7)
Better from Federer. He got a bit lucky with a couple of points, like when a net cord fell nicely into his stride, but the Swiss has once again rediscovered his groove.
23:18
KOEPFER 3-2 FEDERER* (6-7, 7-6, 6-7)
Koepfer is back in this. Federer just hasn't been able to maintain his level over any great period of time in this match. Even when he's on top, it's followed by a dip a few games later.
23:16
*KOEPFER 2-2 FEDERER (6-7, 7-6, 6-7)
Break back! Dreadful game from Federer who misses FOUR forehands in the one game and that gifts the break back to Koepfer. This match continues to swing back and forth.
23:10
KOEPFER 1-2 FEDERER* (6-7, 7-6, 6-7)
Break! Is that the moment that Federer breaks Koepfer's resolve! The German saved one break point, but then put a forehand just wide and it's the veteran who has the break in this fourth set!
23:06
*KOEPFER 1-1 FEDERER (6-7, 7-6, 6-7)
A love hold for Federer. There's no doubt the Swiss is looking to accelerate towards the finish line here now that he has the two sets to one lead. He knows going to five will be tough for him.
23:04
KOEPFER 1-0 FEDERER* (6-7, 7-6, 6-7)
Good start to the fourth set by Koepfer as he holds comfortably to get on the board. That suggests the German will remain competitive and won't be going away any time soon.
23:00
KOEPFER 6-7 (4) FEDERER (6-7, 7-6)
Third set, Federer! The Swiss really pressed down on the accelerator in the midpoint of the tie break, defending well and ripping a forehand winner past Koepfer for 5-4, and that gave him the initiative to clinch it.
22:53
22:52
KOEPFER 6-6 FEDERER (6-7, 7-6)
Koepfer saves a set point and we have another tie break in this match! Every set played so far has been concluded in this way. Which way will this one swing?
22:47
*KOEPFER 5-6 FEDERER (6-7, 7-6)
Koepfer pushes Federer in this game with some excellent returning, but the Swiss does enough to hold. That means he will at least have a tie break in this set. Can he break in the next game?
22:43
KOEPFER 5-5 FEDERER* (6-7, 7-6)
That was a much-needed hold of serve for Koepfer. The German plays his best game in a long time and holds comfortably. Good serving. Clarity of thought. He's got it back again.
22:39
*KOEPFER 4-5 FEDERER (6-7, 7-6)
Koepfer will now have to serve to stay in the set. Federer hasn't really done much to turn this set around. Instead, Koepfer has been unable to maintain his incredible standard from earlier in the set.
22:38
KOEPFER 4-4 FEDERER (6-7, 7-6)
Break back! A bad game from Koepfer who allowed his level to drop and Federer takes the opportunity, although it must be said that the German sort of gifted the game to his opponent.
