A love hold from Federer and all of a sudden it feels like the Swiss is starting to relax and play his own game. A lot more variety from the veteran. Koepfer struggling now.

Break! A bit of a tussle at the start of the second set, but Federer gets the early break, clinching his third break point. He swatted away the forehand winner and he's ahead in this set.

First set, Federer! The Swiss hasn't been at his best, but he gets the job done in the tie break and clinches the first set! There was a double fault at 4-5 from Koepfer that proved crucial.

Into a tie break we go after 54 minutes! Koepfer clinches another hold of serve with his fourth ace of the match. This has been a fascinating match so far. Which will way will th breaker go?

A bit loose from Federer at some points in that game, but two big serves at 40-40 help him to nudge the scoreboard again and the Swiss at least has a tie break here.
