Good evening and welcome to Eurosport's LIVE coverage of the Roland Garros men's singles third round match between Dominik Koepfer and Roger Federer. Federer was a bit of an unknown quantity coming into the French Open, but the 20-times Grand Slam champion has been very impressive in the matches he has played so far.

Better from Koepfer as he holds comfortably. With Federer on the rise the German just needs to make sure he remains within touching distance on the scoreboard.

A love hold from Federer and all of a sudden it feels like the Swiss is starting to relax and play his own game. A lot more variety from the veteran. Koepfer struggling now.

Break! A bit of a tussle at the start of the second set, but Federer gets the early break, clinching his third break point. He swatted away the forehand winner and he's ahead in this set.

KOPEFER 6-7 (5) FEDERER
First set, Federer! The Swiss hasn't been at his best, but he gets the job done in the tie break and clinches the first set! There was a double fault at 4-5 from Koepfer that proved crucial.

Into a tie break we go after 54 minutes! Koepfer clinches another hold of serve with his fourth ace of the match. This has been a fascinating match so far. Which will way will th breaker go?

A bit loose from Federer at some points in that game, but two big serves at 40-40 help him to nudge the scoreboard again and the Swiss at least has a tie break here.

Two more break (set) point opportunities for Federer, but he fails to take either of them and Koepfer grinds it out. Some bravery from the German in that game. Percentage play stuff.

There is a sense that Koepfer is knocking on the door. Federer holds without facing a break point on serve, but it's the German who seems to be edging things ever so slightly right now.

It's been a strange start to the match. Both players are pretty frustrated. Both players are missing chances. Federer spurned a break point opportunity there. Koepfer holds again.

Rattling through the games at the moment. This time it's Federer's turn to hold serve comfortably with some excellent serving. He's having to keep up that level against Koepfer.

Yikes! A 199kmph serve from Koepfer to ace his way to a love hold. That is going to take some reading from Federer to make inroads on the German's services games.

Federer saves two break points to keep on serve in this opening set. Some good serving from the Swiss when he needed it most. Koepfer might well rue that missed opportunity, though.

The longest game of the match so far, but Koepfer holds after saving a break point. Federer is starting to move around the German using his backhand to great effect.

Impressive game from Federer. The Swiss has struck the frame a few times so far, but some good serve and volleying there as well as a couple good serves. Playing well early on.

Well, I asked how Koepfer would settle and it would appear very well. A love hold for the German as Federer struggles to get a read on his serve.

A good start by Federer, although there were a few lengthy rallies in that opening game of the match. How will Koepfer settle against arguably the greatest men's tennis player ever?

READY, PLAY! Federer to serve first...
