SET! - FEDERER 6-2 CILIC. Wow, that was fast. That set is gone in 60 seconds for Cilic as Federer rattles through a love hold to take the opener in 30 minutes.

FEDERER 5-2 CILIC. A pair of aces help Marin to a rare old hold. He poses the serve-out question to the 2009 champion.
FEDERER 5-1 CILIC. That’s five games in a row for the 20-time major champion. Cilic has a chance to snare a break back when he gets low to drill a superb backhand up the line. Federer’s response is clutch, nailing two big first serves and a third ace of the match to get out of dodge.

BREAK! - FEDERER 4-1 CILIC. It’s going pear-shaped for Marin. He tires to outsmart Federer at the net but that’s never easy to achieve. The No.8 seed sweeps a low slice beyond the Croatian and goes on to claim the double break. It’s like he’s never been off the big stage!
FEDERER 3-1 CILIC. The Swiss Maestro is pressed to deuce once more but is playing the big points the better of the two at the moment and goes on to consolidate.

BREAK! - FEDERER 2-1 CILIC. After battling to hold serve, Federer springs forward and ruthlessly makes his first break point count.
FEDERER 1-1 CILIC. That was a chance for Chila. He powers back from 40-0 down with some big forehands and earns the first break point of the match from deuce. Federer survives it and is then allowed to wriggle free as the Croatian charges in to finish off a forehand but slaps it tamely into the net.
FEDERER 0-1 CILIC. That’s a clinical love hold from Cilic to kick things off. Federer didn’t get much of a look-in there.

H2H: This will be their 11th meeting. Federer leads the match up 9-1 including triumphs in the 2017 Wimbledon final and the 2018 Australian Open final respectively. Cilic’s only win was in the 2014 US Open semi finals on his way to winning his only major to-date. They have only met once before on clay with Federer winning in straight sets at the Monte Carlo Masters in 2011.
