BREAK! - DJOKOVIC 6-3 1-0 CUEVAS. That is magnificent. Another true spectacle of a game sees Cuevas take charge at the net for a 40-30 lead from 15-30 down. Novak refuses to let him off the hook and snatches a break point with a wonderful drop shot. The Serb looks set to lose the ensuing point but makes up some incredible ground to make Cuevas play one more shot and the Uruguayan gifts him the game with an error.

SET! - DJOKOVIC 6-3 CUEVAS. That’s a super recovery. Djokovic looks up against it at triple break back point down but he sizzles through five points in a row, including a pair of aces, to claim a very watch-able first set.

BREAK! - DJOKOVIC 5-3 CUEVAS. There’s that A-list return game from the Serb. The elasticity and ability to reach shots others would wave goodbye to once again puts him in a strong position. A delicious deep slice conjures up double break point, but Cuevas responds with wonderful clutch play, including an athletic, angled volley to make deuce. However, he follows up with a tame error and Nole comes out on top in an epic rally with a scorching forehand winner. He’ll now serve for the set.
DJOKOVIC 4-3 CUEVAS. The world number one knuckles down for the business end of the set with an emphatic love hold.

DJOKOVIC 3-3 CUEVAS. Pablo does have real flair and a swashbuckling style. He shrugs off the wonderful defences of Djokovic to remain on form and level matters. He’s started very well here.
DJOKOVIC 3-2 CUEVAS. Normal service resumed? The 18-time Grand Slam champion shows just why he’s likened to a human wall by some super resistance before striking to snare the point after a 21-shot rally. The top seed nails a fierce backhand up the line and glides through a very impressive hold.

BREAK! - DJOKOVIC 2-2 CUEVAS. Beware the wounded bull. Djokovic dusts himself down, settles into his return game and duly breaks back on the second of three opportunities. That wasn’t great from the Uruguayan. It was very leaky and was summed up by a crosscourt backhand that flew way long to concede the game.

BREAK! - DJOKOVIC 1-2 CUEVAS. There’s a dose of South American flamboyance right there. Cuevas nonchalantly pulls off a no-look winner before outfoxing Novak with a sweet, diagonal pick-up at the net. The Serb feels the early heat and coughs up double break point. A clutch serve swats away one before an energy-sapping baseline exchange ends with the top seed crashing an attempt down the line into the net.
DJOKOVIC 1-1 CUEVAS. A bullet forehand up Djoker’s right flank seals a very tidy hold to 15 for Cuevas. He’s overcooked a few shots to the baseline but has a nice clay-court game and will enjoy pitting his skills against the best player on the planet.
DJOKOVIC 1-0 CUEVAS. Routine work for the top seed. Cuevas fires long twice, Nole chucks in a delightful drop shot and then thunders down an ace to make the perfect start.

Djokovic will serve first in what is his 350th Grand Slam match.
DID YOU KNOW? Cuevas has reached round three at RG on four previous occasions. He has never gone beyond that stage and will have to pull off an almighty shock here to have a chance of achieving that.
Earlier on this court, home favourite Gael Monfils suffered a round two exit.
Meanwhile, the men's world number has also offered his support to Naomi Osaka after she withdrew from the tournament following the off-court controversy caused by her decision to skip press conferences.
