FERRO v KENIN Right then. We’ve had three wins in straight sets so far on Chatrier, so after victories for Kvitova, Tsitsipas and Djokovic, will fourth seed Kenin advance to the quarters as well? Not if Ferro can help it. The French world No 49 will have the backing of the crowd as she targets a first-ever Grand Slam quarter. To do so, she must beat Kenin three years on from their last and only meeting – one which the American won in straight sets on clay in Charleston. This match should get under way at around 5.35pm BST.

FERRO 6-2 2-6 1-6 KENIN
Kenin finishes with a flourish, breaking Ferro again to seal her spot in the French Open quarter-finals for the first time! She’s in tears after the match and cannot seem to hold it together as she gathers her stuff.
The 21-year-old Australian Open champion certainly did not have it all her own way, but for a second time this tournament she has battled from a set down to win.
It’s a farewell to Ferro after a stunning home tournament, and the 23-year-old will be out to use this as a platform for the future.
In the here and now, it’s Kenin who has a second Grand Slam of the year in sight.

A rapid hold from Kenin, again to love, and we are getting close to the end now for Ferro, who must somehow find her way back from 5-1 down…

FERRO 6-2 2-6 1-4* KENIN
Staring at defeat and two more break points Ferro somehow finds the energy to save them both.
At deuce, Kenin hands Ferro the advantage and then throws down her racket in anger, drawing some jeers from the crowd who will not miss a chance to try and throw the American off.
Ferro does not convert that game point, and she misses another chance two points later before Kenin brings up break point.
Ferro gets warned about coaching, brave with Mr Kenin next to him in the box, but the French player does manage to save the break.
And then cheers from the crowd as Ferro holds!

This is going very smoothly for Kenin now, and the American holds to love – the first time this whole match!

Regardless of what’s going on off the court, on it Kenin is certainly in control and she now has a second break of this decider to sail to a 3-0 lead.

A bit of chatter on social media about Kenin's coach - her dad Alex - going to sit next to Ferro's coach Emmanuel Planque during that second set. All a tad bizarre in the circumstances, but perhaps Kenin's corner felt there was some coaching going on and her father has sought to put off Ferro from doing so? Mystery, so far, but one that may get talked about in the post-match press conferences.

FERRO 6-2 2-6 *0-2 KENIN
No doubting who’s on top in this final set so far… Kenin absolutely roaring out ‘Come on!’ practically with every point won. Trying to push herself over the line in her bid for a first French Open quarter-final.

The perfect start to the deciding set for Kenin, who converts the first of two break points to take a 1-0 lead. Now she just needs to consolidate it…

0-30 and Kenin under pressure, but an ace helps her recover before a Ferro error makes it 30-all.
First set point for Kenin, she cannot convert…. But at the second time of asking she seals the set and takes this match to a decider!

FERRO 6-2 2-5* KENIN
Ferro stops the rot on her own serve by holding after she has been broken three times in a row. Now for Kenin to serve for the second set.

FERRO 6-2 *1-5 KENIN
A second hold to 15 in a row for Kenin, and whatever problems she was having on serve have been eradicated - for now. On the verge of a decider.

A beautifully disguised drop shot by Kenin and it’s 0-30 – how quickly momentum can change. She fires back a return winner and brings up three break points before converting the first with a calm forehand winner. 4-1 double break.
18:39
FERRO 6-2 *1-3 KENIN
Kenin had dropped four service games in a row, so that hold will feel good. Very good. A bit of daylight, but she must maintain this level to stay in front and force the decider.

Just looking through and we haven’t had a single hold to love so far this match, and just one hold to 15 and none to 30.
This third game of the second set is the seventh overall to go to deuce, and it’s Kenin who gets the break to move back in front! That’s three breaks in a row to start the set.

Saying that….. Ferro responds to move 0-40 up on Kenin’s serve. The American saves the first with a sumptuous forehand, saves the second with a well-disguised drop shot, but Ferro converts at the third time of asking as Kenin sends a forehand into the net!

A chance for Kenin to re-group between sets and she’s managed to get her focus back, bringing up two break points. She manages to convert the second, and not for the first time this match she lets out a mighty ‘Come on!’ after securing the break.

Every game is a mini-battle! Kenin fails to convert two game points and she is then facing a set point… which Ferro converts!!
Kenin goes wide, and after 41 minutes Ferro is a set up after winning six in a row, having lost the opening two games… Who saw that coming!
18:13
FERRO 5-2* KENIN
Another gruelling game as Kenin battles to deuce on Ferro’s serve following a double fault. Fine margins in this match currently, and after a whack of the racket Kenin saves game point to bring it back to deuce.
This time, Ferro wins two straight to hold and keep her nose in front.

Well, well! Make that four games in a row! Ferro fights from 2-0 down to lead 4-2 after taking Kenin to deuce and converting the break at the first time of asking.

FERRO 3-2* KENIN
Whatever nerves there were at the start of the match have since dissipated for Ferro. She holds to 15 and edges ahead in this first set with three games in a row.
