SAMSONOVA 1-2* KENIN It has been a bright start from the Australian Open champion, breaking the world No 125 in the opener and saving a break point herself in the next game. It's going to be some ask for Samsonova this afternoon, and her task has already got tougher.

The Australian Open champion battles her way past Samsonova. It was a decider which swung both ways, with Kenin dropping her first service of the set before breaking back in the fourth game. She then upped the ante and broke again in the eighth before converting her first match point a game later.

To a decider we go. Samsonova has been on top since play resumed, and though there was a brief interlude due to another spray of rain, the Russian has taken the second set 6-3.

Well, well… Since play has resumed it has been all Samsonova, who has taken the first three games of the second set. Pressure on the American now to respond.

And that’s the first set for Kenin. After a bit of a wobble when dropping serve twice, three breaks of her own are enough to take it 6-4.

After the pair both hold serve it’s Kenin who turns up the heat, breaking the Russian to make it 5-4 and the American is now serving for the first set.

Kenin was in control… but three straight breaks of serve with Samsonova taking two of them means we are back on serve in the first set. Got to hand it to the Russian for fighting back, and this opener is there for the taking.
