GAME, SET AND MATCH! - SAKKARI 5-7 6-4 7-9 KREJCIKOVA. It’s a magical evening in the life of Barbora Krejcikova. The Czech books her spot in the 2021 French Open final after breaking No.17 seed Sakkari in sudden death in the decider on a FIFTH match point. It was an epic three-hour and 18 minute battle full of incredible late drama. Sakkari had a match point and did serve for a place in the final but couldn’t get it done. The No.17 seed bows out and the Czech world No.33 will now meet Russia’s No.31 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in Saturday’s final.
SAKKARI SERVING TO STAY IN THE TOURNAMENT: More drama! Maria double faults for only the third time in the match and then arrows a shot to the baseline that is called out on a fourth match point. Krejcikova starts to celebrate but her joy is halted abruptly as the umpire checks and calls it in. The point is replayed and Sakkari hammers a scorching crosscourt winner. Its’ a real battle from deuce. The suggestion from Hawkeye is that the ball was OUT… On we go.. and now it’s a FIFTH MP for the Czech…
SAKKARI 5-7 6-4 7-8 KREJCIKOVA. No such drama for Krejcikova as she hits back from losing the first point to steer clear of any danger. The intense pressure will transfer back to Maria….
SAKKARI 5-7 6-4 7-7 KREJCIKOVA. Nerveless stuff! Sakkari saves THREE match points, including one where a Barbora backhand hit the tape and bobbled over. SAKKARI 5-7 6-4 5-6 KREJCIKOVA. Sakkari scoops a couple of backhands long as the Czech world No.33 seems to have found a place of serenity after surviving match point. A rasping backhand down the line seals the hold and Sakkari must now serve to stay in the tournament.
BREAK! - SAKKARI 5-7 6-4 5-5 KREJCIKOVA. It’s all square. Krejcikova is back in business as Sakkari can’t stave off the second break point after some loopy crosscourt exchanges forced a short ball out of the Greek. That mach point will now seem like a long time ago for Maria...

SAKKARI 5-7 6-4 5-4 KREJCIKOVA. Clutch. Krejcikova doesn’t blink. She’s match point down and follows in a rasping approach shot by putting away a crosscourt volley with aplomb after the ball appeared to hang in the air for an age. Sakkari cant find the court thereafter and she will now have to serve for the match.
SAKKARI 5-7 6-4 5-3 KREJCIKOVA. Maria moves within a game of the final. She licks the lines with a couple of wonderful winners and slams a beastly first serve down the middle T. It does most of the heavy lifting. Does Krejcikova have it in her to provide one last twist in the tale?
SAKKARI 5-7 6-4 4-3 KREJCIKOVA. Sakkari tries to apply some heat for a break that would surely ease some of hers. She can’t find it. Barbora paints the line with a backhand crosscourt missile at 30-30 and then gets away with a ridiculously slow-paced second serve to stay in contention.
