Karolina Pliskova and Caroline Garcia defeated Timea Bacsinszky and Hsieh Su-wei respectively.

Top seeds Karolina Pliskova and Caroline Garcia secured their places in the final of the Tianjin Open with comfortable victories on Saturday.

Czech Pliskova came through her semi-final against Timea Bacsinszky, who had ended the WTA Finals hopes of Aryna Sabalenka in the last eight, 6-2 6-1.

The number one seed, ranked six in the world, needed just over an hour to see off the Swiss player.

Frenchwoman Garcia defeated fifth seed Hsieh Su-wei 6-3 6-4 to secure her place in Sunday’s final.

At the Prudential Hong Kong Open, China’s Wang Qiang battled through two matches in a day to reach the final.

In-form Wang had earlier progressed through her rain-delayed match against top seed Elina Svitolina, before then regrouping to defeat Garbine Muguruza in three sets, 6-7 (5/7) 6-4 7-5.

Resuming on Saturday and serving for the match against Svitolina, the 26-year-old Wang recovered from losing her opening game to complete a 6-2 6-4 victory over the world number five after only 10 minutes back on court.

Wang had to dig deep to eventually see off fourth seed Muguruza later in the day.

The world number 13 took the first set on a tie-break before the Chinese player rallied, and eventually progressed after two hours and 42 minutes.

In the other semi-final, teenager Dayana Yastremska ended the run of China’s Zhang Shuai, ranked 40 in the world, with a 7-5 6-4 win as the 18-year-old Ukrainian secured a place in her first WTA tour final.

At the Upper Austria Ladies Linz, Russian qualifier Ekaterina Alexandrova recovered from losing the first set 6-0 to Andrea Petkovic to book her spot in a first WTA Tour final.

Former top-10 player Petkovic looked set to make her first final since 2015 but 23-year-old Alexandrova, ranked 119, mounted a superb comeback to triumph 0-6 6-4 6-0.

In the final she will play Italian fifth seed Camila Giorgi, who was a 6-3 6-4 winner over Alison van Uytvanck.
