After younger brother Andy fell to defeat in the quarter-finals against Kei Nishikori, Jamie added the men’s doubles title at Flushing Meadows to his win in Australia earlier this year with Soares, and his 2007 mixed doubles win at Wimbledon.
It fell to Murray to serve the match out, securing a 6-2 6-3 win over the Spanish pair. And he had a message for his sibling.
“We’re starting to move out of the shadows a little bit," he said on court to Patrick McEnroe, another player with a famous brother. "There’s a long way to go. [Andy has] had a great year. He had three Grand Slam finals, obviously winning Wimbledon was huge and Olympic gold.
“But he couldn’t win this one, so yeah, get it up you Andy!”
Murray, who lost in the Flushing Meadows final last year with Australian John Peers, and Soares, runner up in 2013 with Austrian Alexander Peya, made sure the trophy would not slip away a second time.
Fourth-seeded Murray and Soares become the first team to win multiple slam doubles titles in a season since American brothers Bob and Mike Bryan won three in 2013.

Murray, became the first British man to claim the U.S. Open doubles crown since Roger Taylor in 1972, while Soares is the first Brazilian to land the title.
“It’s a great feeling," Murray added. "These tournaments are the hardest to win: all the best teams are playing. The last couple of years I’ve found a way to win and play my best tennis at these tournaments, which wasn’t always the case."
