-

Cilic 6-2 6-3 7-5 Donskoy. Game, set and match. A bit of a tricky final set, but the reigning champ lives to see another day. A competent victory the Croat can be very happy with.

-

Cilic 6-2 6-3 6-5 Donskoy. Donskoy's momentum continues as he finds his way to game point, but the looming threat across the net proves too much for him after a big Cilic forehand levels the match up at deuce. From there, two errors and Cilic is suddenly serving for a place in round three.

-

Cilic 6-2 6-3 5-5 Donskoy. Donskoy, still radiating with confidence, threatens to take the set as Cilic's service game meets deuce. However, the Croat's booming serve comes to the rescue, as it so often does.

-

Cilic 6-2 6-3 4-5 Donskoy. Well, look at Donskoy now. The Russian pieces together another confident service game, pounding a screamer of a crosscourt forehand to hold and remain ahead.

-

Cilic 6-2 6-3 4-4 Donskoy. Another clean service game from Cilic, who draws back level. Still, Donskoy looks far from overwhelmed, as he did earlier on today.

-

Cilic 6-2 6-3 3-4 Donskoy. Cilic responds to the spike in his momentum by slamming down a quick and easy serve-dominated game. However, Donskoy is looking a whole lot more confident and refreshed, the Russian more than matching him with a routine hold of his own.

-

Cilic 6-2 6-3 2-3 Donskoy. A little bit of complacency from Cilic there, and suddenly it's back on serve as Donskoy breaks back. Credit to The Don for not giving up – the match isn't quite over, after all.

-

Cilic 6-2 6-3 2-1 Donskoy. With all the ease of a leisurely walk in the park. Cilic perhaps fully puts the match to bed with an easy break to love. The power and weight of the giant's strokes are just too much for the small Russian.

-

Cilic 6-2 6-3 1-1 Donskoy. The champ continues to roll. After steaming through the second set with just his serve needed, Cilic turns his hunt to a final break to wrap things up as quickly as possible. For Donskoy, eery service game must feel like he's serving to stay in the match.

-

Cilic 6-2 5-3 Donskoy. Donskoy can only hold the champion off for so long. Cilic turns on the style with a briliant forehand passing shot – almost killing Donskoy in the process – and the Croat will serve for the set.

-

Lopez 2-6 6-3 1-6 7-5 4-3 Fish. Oh dear. Fish finds himself at 0-30 and within striking distance of a break, only for cramp to strike. Playing his first 5 setter in what feels like decades, he would be superhuman if he wasn't cramping. A tough task just got a whole lot tougher.

-

Cilic 6-2 4-3 Donskoy. Donskoy has done a pretty good job of inserting himself into this second set. A slick dropshot from the Russian brings him to deuce, but Cilic's serve remains irresistable. The Croat holds again and nudges ahead again.

Cilic 6-2 Donskoy. Marin Cilic is looking every inch a grand slam champion in these opening stages. The Croat powers to a 6-2 first set win over Donskoy with some brilliant serving and typipcal aggression off the ground. Donskoy understandably looks quite petrified in his first Ashe experience.

-

Cilic 4-1 Donskoy. Meanwhile on Ashe, defending US Open champion Cilic kicks things off with an early break, before slamming down some big serves to move to a quick lead. His US Open victory is still strange and confusing, but the Croat looks unmoved early into his defense.
