GAME, SET AND MATCH! - FEDERER 6-4 6-3 6-1 WAWRINKA. Simply stunning from Federer. What a fantastic performance to completely blow away the French Open champion. He serves it out from deuce after Stan had offered a tiny bit of resistance, but in truth he was second best throughout. Fed marches on and is into his first US Open final in six years where he will meet top seed, Nole Djokovic.
BREAK!- FEDERER 6-4 6-3 5-1 WAWRINKA. Too good. Federer was quite sensational there. Wawrinka looks in control but can't put Fed-Ex away. It turns in Fed's favour and at 30-40 the match is all-but up. The double break is confirmed when Federer defends everything Stan can throw at him before going on the attack and forcing an error into the net. Fed to serve for a place in the final.
FEDERER 6-4 6-3 4-1 WAWRINKA. Fed consolidates to 15 with another highly efficient service game. Stan has fallen away quite badly since his early chances in the first set. Is there any fight left in him here?
BREAK! - FEDERER 6-4 6-3 3-1 WAWRINKA. It's looking bleak for Stan. At 30-30 he nets a short ball from Fed-Ex and fizzes long on the next point. Federer closing in on a final berth now as his opponent's unforced error tally continues to rise.
FEDERER 6-4 6-3 2-1 WAWRINKA. The serve and volley once again does the trick for Federer as he cruises to a simple hold. The world number two will be keen to seal this in straight sets now. If Stan can force a fourth the pendulum could well start to swing back towards him. At the moment it's firmly with Fed-Ex.
FEDERER 6-4 6-3 1-1 WAWRINKA. A thumping serve down the middle T seals the deal for Stan the Man after Federer had the crowd buzzing with a slice dropshot right out of the top drawer.
FEDERER 6-4 6-3 1-0 WAWRINKA. Federer with the benefit of serving first in this third set and he immediately sets about finishing the task in hand with a hold to 30, despite a sublime dropshot from Stan.
SET! - FEDERER 6-4 6-3 WAWRINKA. Deja vu for Stan as he suddenly finds himself triple break point down. He has dipped while Fed-Ex's level has risen. As a result there is only one outcome as the 17-time Grand Slam champion claims the break to love and two-set lead.
FEDERER 6-4 5-3 WAWRINKA. Federer getting stronger here. The world number one despatches two brilliant overheads on his way to consolidating to love.
BREAK! - FEDERER 6-4 4-3 WAWRINKA. Fed-Ex piles the pressure on at triple break point once more - and this time Stan doesn't have the answers. The fifth seed drives too deep and drops a disappointing service game to love to hand his compatriot a hugely significant breakthrough.
FEDERER 6-4 3-3 WAWRINKA. Bewitching tennis from Roger. The Maestro canters to a 40-0 lead but somehow drops the next point as Stan shows incredible defences just to draw this one out a little longer. It's ultimately a brief respite as Fed saunters to the hold seconds later.
FEDERER 6-4 2-3 WAWRINKA. Great spirit and mental strength from Stanimal as he save no fewer than five break points to deny Federer who was on the all-out attack there. Will Fed-Ex rue those chances like Stan did in the first set?
FEDERER 6-4 2-2 WAWRINKA. More blockbusting serving from the 34-year-old Fed-Ex as he shrugs off a worldy of a backhand winner from Stan to ease level.
FEDERER 6-4 1-2 WAWRINKA. Solid serving for Stan. Fed tries the much-debated SABR but to no avail as a pearl of a backhand helps Stanimal on his way to a game to 15.
FEDERER 6-4 1-1 WAWRINKA. Fed-Ex rattles through a hold to love. No look-in for Stan on this occasion but he's shown enough so far to suggest he can make some inroads - it's just whether he can take the chances he carves out.
FEDERER 6-4 0-1 WAWRINKA. A brace of big serves from deuce get Stan out of jail after Federer had clocked up a break point with a sumptuous winner down the line. Both players almost trying to outdo each other with some incredible shot-making. It all makes for a good spectacle, but one that hasn't quite caught fire just yet.
SET! - FEDERER 6-4 WAWRINKA. Roger edges a tight first set and is still yet to drop one this tournament. The Maestro's serving mojo breifly fails him on double set point as he double faults. However, a close rally concludes soon after with Wawrinka hammering a forehand long to give his opponent the advantage.
FEDERER 5-4 WAWRINKA. Roger sees his hopes of sealing the set on return end as 15-30 is turned on its head by some fine serving from Stan the Man. Federer will now serve for the opener. Stanimal could well be left ruing his failure to take chances here.
FEDERER 5-3 WAWRINKA. It's not quite happening for Wawrinka. He's pushing hard and hits one of the winners of a high quality match with a quite ridiculous crosscourt backhand for 15-30. But Fed-Ex responds and edges closer to the opening set when Wawrinka's backhand down the line narrowly misses.
FEDERER 4-3 WAWRINKA. Stan looking good out there but his failure to convert those break chances means he's still playing catch up. The point of the game comes at 40-30 as Fed-Ex almost produces a sensational pass to retrieve an overhead putaway, but Stan is alert to it with a subtle pickup volley some of game's great grass players would have been proud of.
FEDERER 4-2 WAWRINKA. Stan's backhand doing more damage than Gasquet's did in Federer's previous match. Some clever returning gives Wawrinka triple break point but an ace down the middle T and some astute net play gets Fed to deuce. The Swiss sizzles his own backhand winner down the left flank before crushing home another ace to hold. Five points on the spin for the number two seed, but Stan will feel it's another missed opportunity.
FEDERER 3-2 WAWRINKA. Better from Stan as he gets back into his service rhythm with some solid play. A sublime backhand winner is the pick of his points with the only blot on his copybook being an overcooked volley he should have put away at the net.
FEDERER 3-1 WAWRINKA. Fed-Ex consolidates to love with a wide serve that skims the frame of Wawrinka's racket on its way past him.
BREAK! - FEDERER 2-1 WAWRINKA. At 30-0 it looks routine for Stan - but Fed has other ideas. The world number two works his way to a break opportunity and converts when Stanimal wildly blazes long of the baseline. It's all about taking your chances at the highest level and Roger has taken his after Stan failed to convert in the previous game.
FEDERER 1-1 WAWRINKA. The Wawrinka backhand is one of tennis' greatest sights when it's on song - and that could well be the case tonight if this is anything to go by. Fed-Ex is made to work ever so hard for his first hold, saving break point before coming through following a real examination of his serve. Some brilliant tennis in that game. We could be in for a treat!
FEDERER 0-1 WAWRINKA. A stonking forehand from Fed-Ex sees him start where he left off against Gasquet, but Stan rallies to take the next four points and secure a relatively easy game.
Wawrinka won the toss and has opted to serve first.
The warm up is well under way and while this clash is so tough to call, one thing is for sure... there will be a Swiss in the 2015 US Open final.
Wawrinka on why the 16-3 head-to-head record in Federer's favour won't dwell too much on his mind. Stan said: "I think the past three years I got closer to him. My level improved a lot. I'm playing better tennis. I will need to play my best tennis. He's playing really well so far. He loves to play. He knows how to play. He's had some amazing matches. It's going to be a big challenge. I think I'm ready."
Federer on Wawrinka: "I'm looking forward to playing him, because he definitely is a big test and a big challenge for me. He beat me in straight at the French Open, so I hope I can do better this time."
