GAME, SET AND MATCH! - ISNER 4-6 3-6 6-7 ZVEREV. Zverev has done it! He takes the TB 7-5 to make the fourth round at the US Open for the first time. The German sees off the highest ranked player in the bottom half of the draw in straight sets in two hours and seven minutes. Zverev claimed it on the last of his three match points, fittingly surging into the net to put away a sublime volley. He will face another American in Sam Querrey next, who will become the new USA No.1 if he can win one more match here.

TB UPDATE: It's 4-2 to Zverev at the change of ends as the German rifles a backhand down the line to snatch the momentum after Isner had started well.

TIE BREAK! - ISNER 4-6 3-6 6-6 ZVEREV. Tie break time! Zverev has too much to do from 40-0 down and although Isner fires down a double fault, he lands another big first serve to seal the game.
ISNER 4-6 3-6 5-6 ZVEREV. Mischa enduring some nervy moments on serve now. He survives a barrage of thumping forehands at 15-30 and then sees his opponent miss another that looked odds-on a winner to make BP. The German accepts the reprieve and a big first serve gets him over the line. He will at least have a chance to seal the match in the TB. Isner serving to stay in it for a second time...
ISNER 4-6 3-6 5-5 ZVEREV. The USA No.1 finds a trio of big serves to get out of trouble from 15-30 down. Any slip now will cost either player the set...
ISNER 4-6 3-6 4-5 ZVEREV. The serve and volley does the trick once more as Zverev comes through a nervy situation at 15-30 to move within a game of the next round. Isner has improved greatly in this set, but needs a consistent service game right now to stay in the tournament.
ISNER 4-6 3-6 4-4 ZVEREV. Still with serve. Isner holds to 30 to level. Can he up the ante now and wipe the frowns off the faces in the crowd? Big game for Zverez next.
ISNER 4-6 3-6 3-4 ZVEREV. An impressive hold. Someone should put a montage of these Zverez volleys together. He produces two peaches to fend off double break point before keeping his nose in front with a wide serve-volley combo. That could well be a big game in the context of the match, particularly if Mischa completes the job in straight sets.
ISNER 4-6 3-6 3-3 ZVEREV. It'll be interesting to hear what Isner has to say about the neck problem. He's really struggled for rhythm on serve, which is usually the backbone of his entire game. This one is much more like it, but it's been far from his best tonight.
ISNER 4-6 3-6 2-3 ZVEREV. Too good. Isner's demeanour is that of a man who doesn't believe he can turn the tide. Zverez motors through another easy service game to maintain control of the proceedings.
ISNER 4-6 3-6 2-2 ZVEREV. A rare rally engages the crowd as Isner looks to feed off their energy. He outlasts Zverev to hold to 30 and move level. He's changed tactics but needs some reward soon if he is to have any hope of turning this match around.
ISNER 4-6 3-6 1-2 ZVEREV. Mischa's dexterity and agility at the net is a real throwback to the old school. He wastes little time getting into the net and piling pressure on Isner, who too often panics with his attempted pass. Case in point comes at 40-15 as he wildly skews wide of the tramlines after a deep volley from Zverev forced him into a quick decision.
ISNER 4-6 3-6 1-1 ZVEREV. Big John is made to battle once more. He hits back from 0-30 but then has to do it all again from deuce as Zverev turned the screw. The American's second serve has cost him dearly so far.
ISNER 4-6 3-6 0-1 ZVEREV. The last few minutes have gone perfectly for Mischa. He broke to take a two-set lead and now has the scoreboard advantage in Set 3 courtesy of a delicious serve-volley combo that Isner has had no answer to all night.
