World number one Novak Djokovic progressed to the third round of the US Open without even lacing up his shoes on Wednesday.

The Serb had been due to play Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic in the third match of the day on Arthur Ashe court.
But Vesely was forced to pull out, citing an injury.

It will be something of a relief for Djokovic, who lost to the 6'6" 23-year-old in Monte Carlo earlier this year.
Vesely's issue is a left forearm problem which also saw him pull out of the ATP Winston-Salem tournament earlier this year.

Gael Monfils wins amazing match, Tsonga also through

The scoreline gave away little, but the tennis was extraordinary at times as flamboyant Frenchman Gael Monfils beat Jan Satral 7-5 6-4 6-3.

The 10th seed and his Czech opponent pulled off all manner of incredible points during the match, the crowd loving every second.
Ninth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Monfils's compatriot and rival, also came through safely as he knocked out James Duckworth of Australia 6-4 3-6 6-3 6-4.

Kevin Anderson beats Pospisil

Kevin Anderson of South Africa beat Vasek Pospisil of Canada 7-6(3) 6-4 6-4.
The win will be a huge boost for the big-serving South African. He made the quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows last year, but went out in round one of all three grand slams in 2016 so far.
As a former world number ten, that poor record was something of a shock - but he goes into the third round and will fancy his chances of beating either Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or James Duckworth.
