British No 2 Kyle Edmund blitzed past American Steve Johnson 7-5 6-2 7-6(4) to reach the third round of the US Open.
Edmund is now the sole British representative in the singles at Flushing Meadows after Aljaz Bedene and Cameron Norrie both lost their respective encounters on Wednesday.
Denis Shapovalov awaits Edmund in the third round, with the 18-year-old Canadian prevailing in their last meeting at Queen's Club in June.
The 22-year-old shot out the blocks to break Johnson in the opening game, but the Briton was pegged back as the world number 46 levelled the set at 3-3.
A second break followed for Edmund, but he was unable to serve out for the set at 5-4 as Johnson responded once more.
However, Edmund broke for a third time to go 6-5 up, and on this occasion he held to love to take the opening set.
Johnson continued to struggle on serve as Edmund broke him twice to take a 4-0 lead in the second set, and the Brit went on to save four break points en route to clinching it 6-2.
After seven breaks in the opening two sets, no opportunities fell to either player in the third as it headed to a tie-break.
And while it was Johnson who went a mini-break ahead, Edmund responded to go 4-2 up at the changeover before closing it out 7-4.
Earlier in the day, British No. 3 Bedene fell in straight sets to Russian 19-year-old Andrey Rublev in the first round.
The NextGen star faces Grigor Dimitrov in the second round after overcoming Bedene 6-1 6-4 6-4.
Meanwhile, Briton Cameron Norrie was outclassed in the second round by 12th seed Pablo Carreno Busta, who eased to a 6-2 6-4 6-3 victory over the world number 225.
