Top seed Rafael Nadal has won the first two sets against Dusan Lajovic of his opening match at Flushing Meadows.
The world number one was broken by his Serbian opponent in the fourth game of the first set to trail 3-1, but restored parity against the world number 85 under the roof at a rain-hit Arthur Ashe when he broke Lajovic to love to level at 5-5.
After both men held serve, then 15-times Grand Slam champion won the breaker 8-6 with a couple of crunching shots sealing the set from 6-6 in the breaker.
Nadal then secured three breaks in the second set to claim the second set.
The pair have met once before with 27-year-old Nadal emerging victorious on clay in the last 16 at Roland Garros three years ago.
