Rafa Nadal and Serena Williams are both on Arthur Ashe on Day 7 of the US Open as they resume their title quests.

There's plenty of good matches today but ninth seed Dominic Thiem taking on fifth seed Kevin Anderson has caught our eye. Alex Zverev crashed out yesterday and the running joke in tennis circles is that Thiem won't be too far behind. The pair have really struggled to live up to their potential in Grand Slams but Thiem has a wonderful chance against last year's runner-up.

Anderson had to battle to get past the promising Denis Shapovalov in the last round but the South African is a master of the long matches, knowing that his serve can often grind down opponents. The winner of this match will likely face defending champion Rafa Nadal, no easy test but another wonderful opportunity.

POTENTIAL UPSET OF THE DAY

S. Stephens (USA) [3] vs. E. Mertens (BEL) [15]

Defending champion Sloane Stephens has looked in fine form so far during this tournament and with so many top seeds crashing out she has a great chance to retain her title.

However she faces one of the more dangerous players left in the draw in Belgian Elise Mertens, who is still playing doubles. That can sometimes be an advantage and Mertens will prove a real threat for Stephens.

N/A. It's worthwhile keeping an eye on Andy Murray on Instagram - although he's out of the on-court action, he's staying involved.
