In sealing victory in just under one hour and 30 minutes, Federer remained on course for a record eighth Wimbledon title and an 18th Grand Slam crown with a win that resembled a practice session against Bautista Agut, who managed to save five match points on his own serve before finally succumbing.
The second-seeded Swiss will meet France's 12th seed Gilles Simon in the quarter-finals on Wednesday - his 13th appearance at this stage of the event - with a possible semi-final against Andy Murray on the horizon on Friday.
"You adjust to every player you play against. I could work more with finesse and some power at times. It was nice to face a baseliner for a change," said Federer.
"It is nice to see Gilles getting it going on the grass. That was an unbelievable win for him against (Tomas) Berdych, but I hope to stop his run now."
Federer has won eight straight matches stretching over 106 successive service games -- with Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber the last man to break him in last month's first round match at the Halle Open.
