MURRAY 7-5 6-1 6-4 KYRGIOS: GAME, SET, MATCH! Murray hits a forehand long on the opening point, a rare errant shot. Kyrgios runs down a drop shot and shouldn’t plant it wide, but he does. The Aussie slaps a first serve well wide into the doubles court before Murray rips a dismissive, fizzing forehand winner to bring up two match points. And he gets the job done with an ace out wide as the clock ticks onto 7pm exactly. He next faces Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarter finals.

MURRAY 7-5 6-1 5-4 KYRGIOS: Slap dash is one way of describing Kyrgios’ shot making. Rushing it, wafting the racket, trying to hit the ball way too hard. It works a few times before he plants one half way up the net as the game goes to deuce. Another errant backhand flies long to bring Murray a first match point but Kyrgios saves with a smart serve volley play. An ace at 132mph gives him the advantage but another error and sublime forehand pass brings another match point. It’s there for the taking but Murray finds the net with Kyrgios stranded and the Aussie holds on to surely only delay the inevitable. Murray to serve for the match.
-
MURRAY 7-5 6-1 5-3 KYRGIOS: Murray has Kyrgios on a piece of string, pulling him left and right before delivering the killer blow. Great reactions from the Aussie to get back a shot that clips the net but Murray dispatches with ease. A seventh ace moves him closer and Kyrgios nets to put Murray within a game of the quarter final.
-
MURRAY 7-5 6-1 4-3 KYRGIOS: Kyrgios somehow holds with an array of ‘I really can’t be bothered anymore’ shots of an angry schoolboy. Now will he refocus to put all his might into breaking?

MURRAY 7-5 6-1 4-2 KYRGIOS: All over red rover? Murray in total control and in the zone as he holds to love.
-
MURRAY 7-5 6-1 3-2 KYRGIOS: Better from the Aussie but perhaps a little too late now! Murray reaches a drop shot but steers it wide as Kyrgios holds.

MURRAY 7-5 6-1 3-1 KYRGIOS: Kyrgios didn’t sit down during the changeover, just walked to the other end. He’s mentally gone. Murray races to 40-0 with a beautiful backhand up the line and must be loving it! He rams home his advantage with a wicked, dipping forehand from way outside the court that Kyrgios perhaps should make but dumps in the net. Head’s gone…

MURRAY 7-5 6-1 2-1 KYRGIOS: BREAK! Murray looks in the zone against a mentally fragile opponent. He executes a lovely pass and then finds an amazing angle to bamboozle Kyrgios. A slack forehand goes wide to give Murray three break points. Kyrgios saves the first with a big serve and the second with a forehand he should have played two points prior. But Murray won’t be denied, firing a forehand back behind his flummoxed opponent and he lets out a premature victory cry.

MURRAY 7-5 6-1 1-1 KYRGIOS: Kyrgios inches away from a forehand pass that would have given him 0-30 but a ridiculous drop shot from behind the baseline wins Murray the next point. A lovely lob from Murray has his opponent in a complete tangle and the Aussie deliberately launches the ball into the stands. A drop shot wins the game. Such variety.
-
MURRAY 7-5 6-1 0-1 KYRGIOS: A bit of an enigma, this Kyrgios. He immediately regains full focus to race to 40-0. Although he nets a simple forehand, he takes the game with an ace.

MURRAY 7-5 6-1 KYRGIOS: SET! Murray toying with Kyrgios, pulling him into the net before playing into the open court. An ace is unsuccessfully challenged, giving Murray two set points and he finishes the job with another. Is Kyrgios mentally gone now? Looks like it.

MURRAY 7-5 5-1 KYRGIOS: Kyrgios is rushing, looks mentally gone. A drop shot runs more salt into an opening wound and a double fault brings three break points. Kyrgios ready to serve with Murray still taking the towel. “All week”, says the Aussie, sarcastically. But it’s he who has unravelled and he slaps wide to hand a double break.
