WILLIAMS/WILLIAMS 2-3 SHVEDOVA/BABOS: A lovely Serena drop volley opens proceedings but Babos hits a backhand winner to get them level at 15-15 before netting a forehand. Venus nets a makeable backhand after a lovely exchange and Babos earns a break point with a rasping backhand return winner but Serena takes another game to deuce after hitting a smash at Babos with such ferocity that the recipient can only turn her back and smile. No need for that, Serena! But a double fault from Venus means that their opponents have the break.

WILLIAMS/WILLIAMS 2-2 SHVEDOVA/BABOS: Williams frames a smash that goes long and a fabulous second point is won by Babos and Shvedova with great court coverage. A Shvedova ace gets them to 40-0 but Babos then totally misjudges the ball, committing early then leaving it. But a big Shvedova serve gets the scoreboard level again.

WILLIAMS/WILLIAMS 2-1 SHVEDOVA/BABOS: Serena lets out a scream after hitting a forehand winner and follows up with an ace and an unreturnable serve. Babos nails a smash to get them on the board and then fires a forehand straight at Venus before apologising. Serena nets a simple backhand as a third game goes to deuce and the sisters save a break point to hold.

WILLIAMS/WILLIAMS 1-1 SHVEDOVA/BABOS: Venus smashes a volley away to win the opening point then follows up with a forehand winner into the doubles tramline. A big serve from Babos does for Serena before Venus hits a backhand return wide. Babos throws in a double fault but makes amends with a backhand winner. Venus then nets a simple backhand but a lovely slice gets it back to deuce. Babos and Shvedova finally get the better of a long second game.

WILLIAMS/WILLIAMS 1-0 SHVEDOVA/BABOS: A nice start for the Williams’, Venus burying a smash before their opponents hit long. Venus throws in a double fault. A lovely angled volley from Shvedova levels it at 30-30 but Babos then nets. Shvedova nails a return at Serena, who nets probably her first volley of the day! The game goes to deuce again but Serena doesn’t make the same mistake on the volley and Shvedova nets a tricky half volley at her feet.

Coverage of the ladies doubles coming right up! And who would want to play a happy, free, Serena Williams wanting to get another title for herself and sister?
