SHARAPOVA 6-2 6-3 – Sharapova concedes a break point! Zakapalova slips yet again, but the Russian’s forehand drops just wide. She saves the break with a serve down the middle, and for the first time in the match comes to the net to bury a short ball. Match point...brilliant defensive play from Sharapova and a whipped forehand down the line and that is the match.

-

SHARAPOVA 6-2 5-3 – BREAK! Zakopalova almost goes down again as she slips on the turf. The wind has picked up and is not making it easy to hit the ball. Sharapova comes up with some huge returns of serve, but then fails when presented with a presentable second serve. Another slip and it’s break point...and a forehand out wide away from the body and it’s a clean winner.

-

SHARAPOVA 6-2 4-3 – Zakopalova looks exceedingly angry with herself, but not in a constructive way. She looks defeated as Sharapova holds with relative ease to move within a couple of games of victory.

SHARAPOVA 6-2 3-3 – BREAK! She may just be getting going here though. She gets two break points after pummelling a crosscourt forehand into the corner. One break point saved...two break points saved, a double fault and it’s another chance for the Russian. A frankly terrible forehand into the net from Zakopalova and that is the break back.

SHARAPOVA 6-2 1-2 – Zakopalova hits the ground in frustration as another forehand drifts wide. However the Russian is playing even worse and it’s a break point for the Czech. Second serve and Zakopalova can only hit low into the net. She work another chance courtesy of a scathing winner. A double fault and the break is handed to the unseeded Czech.

-

SHARAPOVA 6-2 1-1 – A gift for the Russian as Zakopalova with a terrible forehand to give Sharapova two break points. A brutal winner from the Czech reduces the arrears and she draws to deuce with an equally big forehand. Big serve puts her up in the game, and a backhand clips the top of the net from the Russian for the hold.

-

SHARAPOVA 6-2 1-0 – The Russian makes a poor start to the game as she concedes the first two points. She fights back to 30-30, but a poor crosscourt forehand and Zakopalova has a break point...saved by Sharapova and a huge second serve gets her the advantage...another poor groundstroke and the game is back to deuce. The Czech with an over ambitious forehand and it’s a hold.

-

SHARAPOVA 6-2 – Sharapova moves to within a couple of points of the set. She puts a forehand well long when in a good position at 15-30. Zakopalova similarly wasteful when she hits wide off the backhand side. She hits into the net on set point and the Russian takes the set with ease.
