SHARAPOVA 7-6 5-2 – BREAK! Again Robson responds. She has time to set up a huge forehand and pounds a winner up the line for three break points. Amazing angle from Sharapova saves one, but she nets the next.

SHARAPOVA 7-6 5-1 – Robson hits her first ace of the match and holds her nerve as the game goes to deuce. Robson should put away a simple ball at the net, but shelays the ball towards Sharapova, who lobs the Brit with ease to break again.

SHARAPOVA 7-6 4-1 – Real breathing space for Sharapova now. That’s eight straight points in a row and three aces in that service game. It really is close to over now.

SHARAPOVA 7-6 3-1 – BREAK! Maria’s really starting to get it together now though. She reels off three straight points for three break points. A fantastic return of serve into the corner and she breaks back immediately.

SHARAPOVA 7-6 2-1 – BREAK! This was looking dangerously close to being over, but Robson perhaps isn’t like your average British female tennis player. She responds as she drags Sharapova into the net and grabs the break back.

SHARAPOVA 7-6 2-0 – BREAK! A wild backhand from Robson and some deep hitting from Sharapova gives her the opening game of this second set. It’s vital that Robson holds serve here. She can’t as the Russian starts to get a read on her serve and eventually forces the game.

SHARAPOVA 7-6 (7-4) – A big forehand into the corner followed by a backhand into the opposite side and Sharapova bets a mini-break up herself. The Russian has two set points has makes it first time as Robson skews into the net.

SHARAPOVA 6-6 (2-4) – Robson loses the first on serve, but replies to level the score. Sharapova slices into the corner and it’s on serve so far. Laura moves Sharapova off the court and follows it up with a big serve to edge in front. She gets the mini-break at the changeover...

SHARAPOVA 6-6 – No mistake from the Russian; she hits a brilliant winner crosscourt, but Robson responds with winners herself to reel her opponent in. It’s not enough though as she nets a return of serve and it will indeed go to a tie break.

SHARAPOVA 5-6 – The effective serve out wide from Robson gets her level in this game. Sharapova replies and the game drifts to deuce. A lovely drop shot from Robson and Sharapova will have to take it to a tie break if she’s to win this first set.

SHARAPOVA 5-5 – Sharapova serves to stay in the first set...on the stretch Robson pulls out a winner down the line. A fantastic return of serve lands right in the corner for 30-30 and two points to the set. Sharapova with a big serve and a wayward forehand from Robson gives the Russian the hold.

SHARAPOVA 4-5 – Robson serve-volleys and takes the game to 15. For someone with so little tour experience, Laura is coping remarkably well and is playing superbly.

SHARAPOVA 4-4 – Too good from Sharapova, who powers the ball all over the court. She’s getting her first serve in now and takes this game with ease to level the scores.

SHARAPOVA 3-4 – BREAK! Sharapova does break back, with Robson perhaps easing off a little and not putting enough on her ground strokes to trouble the Russian.

SHARAPOVA 2-4 – Sharapova’s struggling to make her first serves, but she does enough to take the game to 30 and stay alive in this first set.

SHARAPOVA 1-4 – Robson is undaunted though. She wins herself to 15, drawing the error from the Russian and moving ever closer to the first set.

SHARAPOVA 1-3 – Sharapova finally gets on the board. She falls behind, but replies with a series of winners to win to 15.

SHARAPOVA 0-3 – Sharapova replies early on in this third game. Robson challenges a call and gets it right to draw level, though Sharapova thinks the point should have been replayed. Maria is throwing in unforced errors left, right and centre at the minute and Robson smashes down the line for a scarcely believable big lead.

SHARAPOVA 0-2 – Robson pushes the former champion around the court to get two break points. Sharapova saves both and a wild return of serve from Robson gives the Russian the chance to level. A better connection this time from Robson and she gets back to deuce. The two are trading winners at the moment. A double fault gives another chance for Robson...two doubles and that is the break!

SHARAPOVA 0-1 – Robson double faults early on in, but she responds and hits a winner as she comes towards the net. Sharapova gets a break point, but Robson with a serve out wide and the return to the opposite side for deuce. It goes back and forth, but Sharapova gets another chance...not taken. Robson starts to feel comfortable and drives a winner into the corner and she takes the first game.
