Sasnovich now has the number 8 seed's path through the draw and meets Taylor Townsend next. If she plays as well as she did today, she'll be very hard to stop.

Sasnovich 6-4 4-6 6-0 Kvitova - Kvitova isn't going away and blazes a winner to start the game, but next point Sasnovich matches her for power and her forehand prevails. A solid serve allows her to dictate the next rally, her forehand again too much, after which a fourth ace of the match raises two match points! AND ANOTHER ACE IS ALL IT TAKES! THAT IS A HUGE WIN FOR SASNOVICH AND HUGE UPSET FOR THE REST OF US! WHAT A PERFORMANCE THAT WAS, FULL OF ATHLETICISM AND ENTERPRISE! THE TWO-TIME CHAMPION IS OUT!

Sasnovich 6-4 4-6 5-0 Kvitova - Are you kidding me! Sasnovich breaks again and in a moment or two, will serve for the match! This is a phenomenal performance!

Sasnovich 6-4 4-6 4-0 Kvitova - A lob from Sasnovich goes way long and gives Kvitova break point ... but a serve out wide and a sliced volley see it away. Very quickly, the game is over and the end is closer.

Sasnovich 6-4 4-6 3-0 Kvitova - Sasnovich consolidates and takes Kvitova to deuce on her next service game. And have a look! Two points and a hawkeye later, she has the double break! She's playing so well here, taking pace off the ball and also length - she's stopped Kvitova getting into rhythm without compromising her own game.

Sasnovich 6-4 4-6 1-0 Kvitova - Well lookee here! Sasnovich breaks immediately at the start of the decider! Five holds and she's hame!

Sasnovich 6-4 4-6 Kvitova - Sassy from Sasnovich - sorry - winning three straight points after a tame double fault leaves her at 30-40. They end up back at deuce, though, and Kvitova attacks; at advantage, she knocks the cover off it from both flanks til eventually Sasnovich buckles and swipes a forehand wide. We have ourselves a decider.

Sasnovich 6-4 1-4 Kvitova - Sasnovich isn't going away and earns herself a break point, but Kvitova plays it really well, taking a high ball early and gently for a wrongfooter. She has to go through a few deuces to push it home, but eventually it's 4-1 and you'd back her to close out the set from here.

Sasnovich 6-4 0-2 Kvitova - The way Kvitova played in the final game of the first set, which she lost, nevertheless suggested that she was finding some form. So it's no great surprise when she breaks at the first time of asking in the second.

Sasnovich 6-4 Kvitova - Kvitova's forehand starts working and gets her 15-30 before a belter of a return is far too good for Sasnovich. Suddenly she looks pretty fit, but goes long with a backhand to waste one break-back point, netting with a backhand to waste the second. I wonder which wing Sasnovich is going to target.... But she's not considering such trifles, banging down an ace to arrange set point, and a forehand then forces Kvitova to go long, again on her backhand! The cat is pigeoned!

Sasnovich 3-3 Kvitova - We're still on serve on centre, but Kvitova earns herself a couple of break points off deuce ... and Sasnovich confidently saves the second with a lovely approach and pass, then another before holding. That'll fortify her with confidence because she played those big points really well.

Just about to start on Court 1 is Petra Kvitova, the number 8 seed, who meets Alexandra Sasnovich. Annabel Croft says that Kvitova is her favourite, and it's certainly so that if she finds her best form she'll be very hard to stop.
