GAME, SET AND MATCH! - S.WILLIAMS 7-5 7-6 MLADENOVIC. It's all over! Serena books her place in round four following a tough battle with Mladenovic. The French ace couldn't force the decider as SW pulled away in the tie break to take it 7-2. The seven-time champion wasn't at her best, but raised her level when the stakes were high to come through a real tussle in one hour and 49 minutes.

S.WILLIAMS 7-5 6-6 MLADENOVIC. Nerves of steel. Kiki coughs up a pair of double faults and is put under the microscope at deuce. Serena grabs a match point, but can't convert as a wonderful forehand winner denies her. Mladenovic stays calm and comes through a major test to force the tie break.

 

S.WILLIAMS 7-5 6-5 MLADENOVIC. Serena slaps an ace down the middle T to conclude an impressive game to 15. It's all over so swiftly and the pressure is heaped right back on the shoulders of Kiki.

S.WILLIAMS 7-5 5-5 MLADENOVIC. Serena turns the screw at deuce after battling back from 40-15 down. Mladenovic can't afford to blink - and she doesn't. Strong will from the French woman.

 

S.WILLIAMS 7-5 5-4 MLADENOVIC. That's some hold for SW. At 40-0 it looks routine, but Kiki takes four points in a row to pile on the pressure. Serena responds and plays some bigtime tennis to drag herself through.

 

S.WILLIAMS 7-5 4-4 MLADENOVIC. That'll do nicely. Kiki romps to a hold to love. All square deep in the second set.

 

S.WILLIAMS 7-5 4-3 MLADENOVIC. SW is pressed to deuce, but the big serve gets her over the line. Scoreboard pressure can be more telling late in a set. How will Kiki respond now?

 

S.WILLIAMS 7-5 3-3 MLADENOVIC. A big serve down the middle T gets Kiki out of dodge after Serena had threatened at 15-30.

 

S.WILLIAMS 7-5 3-2 MLADENOVIC. The first serve does plenty of damage before an ace finishes of an easy love hold. 'Why didn't you do that last time?' Serena chides herself.

S.WILLIAMS 7-5 2-2 MLADENOVIC. Kiki saves a break point and showcases a lovely touch at the net before coming through to level from deuce. That should give her a lift. She'd dipped off a fair bit after such a strong start to the match.

 

BREAK! - S.WILLIAMS 7-5 2-1 MLADENOVIC. Well, that was rather unexpected. Serena pretty much halts her winning run all by herself. She turns out a loose service game, gifting the break right back with a double fault that sees her broken to love.

 
 

BREAK! - S.WILLIAMS 7-5 2-0 MLADENOVIC. It's six games in a row. Mladenovic has dropped off big time. Serena breaks as the French star dumps a tight crosscourt backhand into the net.

 

S.WILLIAMS 7-5 1-0 MLADENOVIC. Serena builds her momentum with a polished hold to get on the board and lead the way at the start of Set 2.

 

SET! - S.WILLIAMS 7-5 MLADENOVIC. Serena is at her best at the business end! The seven-time champion scorches a return winner up the line to notch up triple set point. Kiki saves all three but then double faults on a fourth. It's four games in a row for SW who takes the opener in 46 minutes.

S.WILLIAMS 6-5 MLADENOVIC. The big serves come flying down like missiles as Williams rallies from 15-30 to get her nose in front at a key moment in the set.

 

BREAK! - S.WILLIAMS 5-5 MLADENOVIC. That's vintage Serena. She really raises her level when it matters most, hitting her returns and shots off both flanks with extra zip. Mladenovic slips at an untimely moment as she offers up break back point. She looks okay, but can do little to stop Serena from breaking to level.

S.WILLIAMS 4-5 MLADENOVIC. Williams does her job and keeps the pressure on Mladenovic. Can the French hopeful keep her nerve?

 

S.WILLIAMS 3-5 MLADENOVIC. It hasn't gone unnoticed that Wimbledon currently has a Williams facing a Kiki on their top two courts right now. Both Kiki's are making it a real battle. This one lashes down an ace to finish a hold to 15 and move within a game of taking the first set.

BREAK! - S.WILLIAMS 2-3 MLADENOVIC. Kristina clenches her fist in an understated celebration as she sweeps a superb backhand winner, with real depth to the baseline. It seals a break to 15 and caps a wonderful start to this match for her.

 

S.WILLIAMS 2-2 MLADENOVIC. The French woman is looking strong on serve. She crunches through a dominant love hold. Serena hasn't had a look-in on the return yet.

 

S.WILLIAMS 2-1 MLADENOVIC. It looks like Serena has warmed up now. She thunders through a hold to 15. Early days, but the early signs are that this could be an intriguing tussle.

 

S.WILLIAMS 1-1 MLADENOVIC. Kristina has no such worries with her opener, breezing through it for the loss of one point.

 

S.WILLIAMS 1-0 MLADENOVIC. It's an inauspicious start, but one that still sees Serena pull off the hold after a few alarm bells were ringing at 15-40.

 

HEAD-TO-HEAD: This is their second meeting. Williams won the first 6-4 7-6 at the French Open two years ago.
