HALEP 7-5 5-0 ZHENG. It's nine games in a row - yes, NINE. Halep pumps her fist in delight after coming through one of her most testing service games in some time. She's one away from the bagel, a perfect 10 and the small matter of the match...

BREAK! - HALEP 7-5 4-0 ZHENG. Saisai looks disheartened and who can blame her. Halep somehow reaches a crosscourt dropshot and somehow angles it back the same way as Zheng. It seals the double break and an eighth game in a row. This match is all-but over now.

HALEP 7-5 3-0 ZHENG. Make that seven games. Halep backs up the break and looks on easy street for round three after what had initially been 40 edgy minutes on Court One.

BREAK! - HALEP 7-5 2-0 ZHENG. It's six games in a row now for the world number one as she produces an exquisite pass to follow up a short overhead that completely caught out Zheng at the baseline.

HALEP 7-5 1-0 ZHENG. Halep is in the zone now. She doesn't want to lose her momentum. The Romanian hammers down a first ace as she holds to love.

SET! - HALEP 7-5 ZHENG. Halep motors through four games in a row to turn a precarious situation into a triumphant one. She breaks to 15 to take the opener in 49 minutes.

HALEP 6-5 ZHENG. Halep has raised her level at a key juncture in the set. She holds to 15. Zheng must now hold to stay in it.

BREAK! - HALEP 5-5 ZHENG. All square. Zheng tightens up and Halep makes her pay. That was a huge opportunity wasted. The scoreboard really got to her there.

HALEP 4-5 ZHENG. Halep is clearly off colour, but she keeps fighting and finds some rare service rhythm to pose the serve-out question. Will the Chinese hopeful get nervous?

HALEP 3-5 ZHENG. Saisai holds and is one game away from pulling off an opening set shock.

BREAK! - HALEP 3-4 ZHENG. Alarm bells are ringing for the world number one. She offers up triple break point and the Chinese underdog makes it count.

HALEP 3-3 ZHENG. From 40-15 to deuce. Zheng battles hard to fend off the Halpe onslaught to move level.

HALEP 3-2 ZHENG. Halep stops the mini rot with an important hold to 30.

HALEP 2-2 ZHENG. That's much better from Zheng. She finds some good first serves and puts a poor start behind her. All square.

BREAK! - HALEP 2-1 ZHENG. Hang on a second - that wasn't in the world number one's script. She throws in a loose service game and Zheng takes full advantage to break straight back.

BREAK! - HALEP 2-0 ZHENG. Simona strikes the ball so cleanly and with real power. Zheng saves break point to get to deuce but can't wriggle free to get on the board.

HALEP 1-0 ZHENG. Solid enough start from the French Open champion. She looked imperious in round one and will be keen to go deep in this draw with so many of the top 10 already out.

Next on Court One, it's world No.1 Simona Halep. She meets China's Zheng Saisai.
