Wimbledon 2018: Jelena Ostapenko battles past Dominika Cibulkova and into semi-finals
Updated 10/07/2018 at 16:01 GMT
Jelena Ostapenko secured her place in the semi-finals of Wimbledon with a 7-5 6-4 victory over Dominika Cibulkova.
Ostapenko was ruthless when it came to the key moments in each set and managed to keep Cibulkova at arm's length throughout.
The 12th seed, who has been widely tipped for her first triumph at Wimbledon, took 81 minutes to progress past the Slovakian.
Ostapenko was locked at 5-5 with Cibulkova in the opening set before she finally found the decisive breakthrough.
She will next take on Germany's Angelique Kerber in the last four after the 11th seed beat out Daria Kasatkina 6-3 7-5 in their quarter-final.
Crucially, Ostapenko is in the opposite side of the draw to Serena Williams and could meet the American in the final.
It is only her second Grand Slam semi-final and first at SW19.
