The Spaniard admits he considered retiring but the occasion on Centre Court made him carry on.
It's quite sensational he was able to continue to complete a high quality four hour and 21 minute match. Just how fit will he be to take on Kyrgios though? We will see come Friday afternoon.

Ladies and gentleman, Rafael Nadal.
How on earth did he do that? He could barely serve and move at one point. His family were urging him to retire but he switched into ultimate fighter mode and somehow prevailed in a dominant champions tie-break to book a spot in the semi finals against his old foe Nick Kyrgios.

Nerves of steel from Nadal. He cruises to a love hold to take us into a tie-break decider.

NADAL 3-6 7-5 3-6 7-5 5-6 FRITZ
Fritz guarantees himself the minimum of a champions time-break with some powerhouse serving to avoid any dramas with a game to 15. Can Nadal force the breaker or will Fritz snatch victory at the death.
NADAL 3-6 7-5 3-6 7-5 5-5 FRITZ
Nadal’s serve has definitely improved with whatever treatment he received. He makes a meal of sealing the game from 40-15 with some nervy smashes but eventually puts away a deft volley to level.

BREAK! - NADAL 3-6 7-5 3-6 7-5 4-3 FRITZ
The No.2 seed produces a sublime drop shot to turn the screw for 0-30 but then blows a second serve return off court. He rues it briefly but then has a look at two break points when Fritz dumps a horrific backhand volley into the net. The American wobbles in the next rally but a tight backhand hits the top of the tape and somehow bobbles over.
Nadal can’t believe it but recovers to eek out a third chance with a deft volley at the net. Fritz just can’t wriggle out of danger and an incessant barrage of forehands clocks up a fourth chance. This time Nadal asserts himself on a second serve and a wonderful drop shot clinches the first break of the set.
NADAL 3-6 7-5 3-6 7-5 3-3 FRITZ
Nadal gets a lucky net cord in the opening point and works his way to a 40-15 lead with some more fine work off the forehand. Fritz stays in touch with a big forehand of his own before the Spaniard misses a crosscourt attempt by a whisker.
The pressure is on but it’s Taylor who blows his chance as he loops a forehand long before dumping another into the net.
NADAL 3-6 7-5 3-6 7-5 2-3 FRITZ
That is HUGE serving. Fritz doesn’t give Rafa a look-in and the American races through a love hold in the blink of an eye.
NADAL 3-6 7-5 3-6 7-5 2-2 FRITZ
Was that Nadal’s best service game of the match? He finds his spots with a couple of excellent wide serves before an absolute scorcher of a crosscourt backhand and a 1-2 punch see him hold to love.
NADAL 3-6 7-5 3-6 7-5 1-2 FRITZ
The service game almost gets complicated as the crowd sense an opportunity for Nadal. Fritz sees a 30-0 lead flitter away but lands a wide ace at pulp (30-30) before Nadal loops just long. That could be a significant hold from a tricky situation for the No.11 seed.
