Angelique Kerber gains revenge over Petra Kvitova, CoCo Vandeweghe storms past Sloane Stephens

Angelique Kerber beat former world number two Petra Kvitova 6-3 6-2 at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart on Wednesday.

Germany’s Kerber lost to Czech Republic’s Kvitova in last weekend’s Fed Cup match on the same court, but responded to keep her hopes of a third title at the event alive.
Coco Vandeweghe crushed fellow American Sloane Stephens, the seventh seed, 6-1 6-0.

Anett Kontaveit of Estonia and Kazakhstan’s Zarina Diyas won their matches, against France’s Kristina Mladenovic and Carina Witthoeft of Germany, respectively.
Fifth seed Ekaterina Makarova of Russia was beaten 1-6 6-1 6-4 by unseeded Serbian Aleksandra Krunic at the Istanbul Cup in Turkey.
Makarova joined fellow seeds Agnieszka Radwanska, Zhang Shuai, Sorana Cirstea and Aryna Sabalenka in tumbling out of the tournament.
Second seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia advanced, beating Bulgaria’s Viktoriya Tomova 7-5 4-6 6-1.
And seventh seed Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania beat Christina McHale of the United States 6-4 6-4.
Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine beat Turkey’s Ipek Oz 4-6 6-4 6-0, while Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic and Sara Errani of Italy completed the day’s winners.
