GOIANIA - Goiânia received this week the visit of FISU delegates who came to the capital of Goiás, in Brazil, for the inspection of the competition venues and lodging that are being prepared for the 2018 World University Wrestling Championship (5 to 9 September). The members of the organization visited the Rio Vermelho Gymnasium, where the competition will be held, and the hotels designated to attend athletes, coaches, referees and the Organizing Committee.
FISU technical delegate Edisher Machaidze (GEO) made comments regarding the gymnasium and the hotel designated for delegations. "The gym is spacious with a large area of competition and training. After all the preparation for the championship, we will have good results to present to the athletes. The hotel has a good structure, with enough space to receive the approximately 400 athletes who will participate in the championship,” he said.

FISU World Championships Director Paulo Ferreira, also part of WUC Wrestling's inspection team, said that the city of Goiânia has everything to make the event a success. "Goiânia hosted the World University Futsal Championship last year, which was among our Top 5. That is a city we already know, which has the government interested in university sports, in addition to the partnership with the CBDU [Brazilian University Sports Confederation] and the University Sports Federation of Goiás. With all this involvement, we know that whatever modality we bring to the city it will be a success,” he said.
As part of the agenda in the city, the FISU team also met with the Secretary for Education, Culture and Sport of Goiás, Raquel Teixeira, who welcomed the team and the World University Wrestling Championship.
