US Open 2017: Injury forces Kyle Edmund to retire against Denis Shapovalov

Kyle Edmund's US Open campaign reached a heartbreaking end when injury forced him to retire in his third-round match against Denis Shapovalov.

Edmund took the first set 6-3 against the highly-rated 18-year-old but Shapovalov returned the favour.
In the third set, Edmund struggled badly with a neck injury and required extensive treatment from the on-court trainer.

After losing the third 6-3 he battled on for one more game before calling it quits.
"It’s never great to win this way. Hopefully it (Edmund’s injury) is nothing too serious," Shapovalov said.
"It’s very unfortunate but I’m happy to be in the fourth round."
Edmund's withdrawal means Shapovalov is the youngest man to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam since Marat Safin in the French Open in 1998.
