From the second edition of the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) to Olympic Qualification Tournaments, the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship and even the inaugural FIVB Snow Volleyball Tour, the coming 12 months has a packed schedule for players and fans of volleyball the world over to look forward to.
2018 was something of a landmark year for the sport as it saw the biggest revolution in volleyball in the past decade thanks to the launch of the VNL. The first edition was a huge success for it set new standards for fan engagement and sport entertainment, but more so showcased volleyball in a way it has never been seen before.
The 2019 VNL will look to better that and kicks off with the women’s competition from 21 May to 30 June, with the men’s equivalent starting on 31 May, again running to 30 June.
The FIVB Nations League Finals then come into play with the women’s finals from 3 to 7 July and men’s from 10 to 14 July.
Squeezed in before that are the FIVB Challenger Cups, with the women’s Challenger Cup taking place across 26 to 30 June, and the men’s from 3 to 7 July.
After a brief respite, the women’s Under 20 World Championships take place in Mexico from 12 to 21 July, with the men’s Under 21 World Championships shaping up in Bahrain across 18 to 27 July.
Another of the big events to look forward to are the crucial Olympic Intercontinental Qualification Tournaments in August, the women’s scheduled in various locations across the globe from 2 to 4 August with the men’s following a week later from 9 to 11 August.
That paves the way then for the FIVB Volleyball World Cup in Japan in September and October; the women’s World Cup being held from 14 to 29 September and the men’s World Cup from 1 to 15 October.
