It was the two-time Olympic Champion’s second time on the podium at Maribor in as many days, though on this occasion not next to Slovakia’s Petra Vlhova, who she tied with in the Giant Slalom competition on Friday.
Shiffrin finished her first run a second faster than second placed Vlhova, with a time of 50.05. Sweden’s Anna Swenn Larsson was hot on Vlhova’s heels with 51.14 just 0.09s behind her time of 51.05.
Shiffrin’s second run was not the fastest at 52.55, 1.33s off Chiara Mair’s top spot with 51.22, but she had done enough in the first run to secure victory, as a disappointing second run for Vlhova suffered a disappointing second run of to push her off a podium spot and into fifth place.
Instead it was Swenn Larsson who finished second, while Wendy Holdener ended up in third place.
Shiffrin maintains a strong lead in the overall World Cup standings, on 1694 points with Vlhova on 1043 and Wendy Holdener of Switzerland behind her on 747 in third place.
