Less than a week after the Silverstone round, the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 returned to action at the Nürburgring. And once again, a category track record was broken during the collective tests when Ukyo Sasahara (ART Junior Team) posted a time of 1:55.584, erasing the previous best set by Alexandre Albon. The Japanese driver led from the leader in the general classification, Louis Delétraz (Josef Kaufmann Racing), and Jack Aitken (Koiranen GP). Darius Oskoui (ART Junior Team) was the highest positioned rookie while Ferdinand Habsburg (Fortec Motorsports) was quickest in the morning session, just six days after his spectacular accident in Great Britain.
Following his win at Silverstone last weekend, Jack Aitken did the business once again at the Nürburgring. Starting second on the grid, the Englishman got the better of pole man Louis Delétraz, before holding off the attacks of Ukyo Sasahara to defeat the Japanese driver. Louis Delétraz finished sixth and still led in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, but three drivers were less than six points behind the native of Switzerland. Sahara Force India Academy protégé Jehan Daruvala (Fortec Motorsports) was the best placed rookie in seventh.

The Racing Steps Foundation backed Englishman took the chequers ahead of team mate Martin Kodrić, who assured a one-two result for the British team, while also striding on to the podium for the first time. Frenchman Anthoine Hubert (Tech 1 Racing) completed the leading trio of the category at the Nürburgring. Fourth place Louis Delétraz slightly increased his lead in the general classification, but five drivers can knock him off the top spot in two weeks at Le Mans.
Provisional general classification: 1. L. Delétraz – 144 points, 2. K. Jörg – 139, 3. J. Aitken – 136, 4. J. Hughes – 132, 5. A. Hubert – 115…
