Professional wrestling is a peculiar spectacle, and the commentary is one of its strangest aspects. Now, the secrets have been revealed.

If you've ever caught a WWE wrestling event on television and wondered what it would be like to work as one of the guys calling the action for the TV audience, you likely never imagined how stressful, confusing and painstaking it can be.

The art of commentary for any sport - legitimate or pre-determined - isn't easy work. Announcers spend many hours researching material, swotting up on history, practicing their tone and working on the various little aspects that come into play.

However, a huge leak on social media service Reddit this week has revealed the true extent of the micro-management involved when it comes to professional wrestling.

WWE owner Vince McMahon, as it turns out, weighs his announcers down with tons of paperwork full of rules, instructions, dos and don'ts.

The documents are dated from between 2008 and 2010, but the same standards are believed to be in place today. However, it's hard to imagine the likes of Jim Ross being this restricted in his role, back when he was calling the action for legends such as 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin and The Rock during the company's highly-successful 'Attitude Era' of 1998-2001.

Have a look at the documents below and see how many contractions you can spot. Our favourite is 'just be yourself'. Ha!
