Björk steps back to rise up in the WTCC
Thed Björk hopes going back in time will help him to go forward in the FIA World Touring Car Championship.
Björk, 12 points behind leader Tiago Monteiro in the WTCC title battle with eight races remaining, has been spending the summer break keeping ‘match’ fit by testing a 125cc gearbox kart – 20 years after stepping up from karting to single-seater racing.
“It’s been important to have kept busy [since Argentina] so I did not lose any momentum,” said the Polestar Cyan Racing-run Swede. “I did go-karting, GT driving and some testing. The go-karting is a fitness thing and also a reaction thing. I have a 125cc gearbox kart, which is really nice and fun to drive but it’s also fast. There is a track really close to where I live in Gothenburg and I go there to practice.”
The all-new Ningbo International Speedpark in China hosts the resumption of the WTCC title battle from 13-15 October. Björk claimed his maiden WTCC victory in China last September.
