WTCC leader Björk facing “biggest challenge”
Thed Björk is facing the “biggest challenge of the season” as he aims to hold on to his FIA World Touring Car Championship lead on the streets of Macau this week.
Björk heads the standings by 16.5 points but has zero experience of the demanding Circuito da Guia, venue for WTCC JVCKENWOOD Race of Macau from 16-19 November.
“Macau is the biggest challenge of the season – it’s the penultimate round of the season and I have never have driven there before,” said Polestar Cyan Racing’s Swedish ace. “I am the chased driver of the championship, but that is something I will use as a strength. I am right where I want to be – at the front of the pack – and we are in our strongest position yet with the development of the car. I feel confident, but of course we need to be on our toes all weekend and try not to make any errors. The consequences of mistakes in Macau can be significant.”
With Néstor Girolami another Volvo-driving rookie, both he and Björk will look to team-mate Nicky Catsburg for guidance. The Dutchman made his Macau debut last season in the FIA GT World Cup event.
