Girolami a fan after first Honda WTCR run
Néstor Girolami got his first taste of Honda Civic Type R TCR power during two days of testing at Zandvoort earlier this week – and liked the experience.
Girolami joined ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport team-mate Esteban Guerrieri at the Dutch seaside track on Monday and Tuesday in preparation for the 2019 WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO.
He said: “I really like the car. It’s fun to drive with good grip. The engine is nice also with the turbo. You play a lot with the gear in every corner but I adapt myself very well.
“At the end of the day we were in similar time with Esteban and this is a really good point to start the season, I am really happy with the pace of the car.”
As well as providing Girolami a chance to sample the Honda Civic Type R TCR, the test gave the Argentine the opportunity to learn the WTCR Race of Netherlands venue and work with his ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport team.
“I was working really well with the team and everybody welcomed me really well,” Girolami continued. “The mechanics, René [Münnich, Team Principal], Dominik [Greiner, Team Manager], all the team was really kind with me.
“I am really happy to be in WTCR and with these new cars we have a very good season ahead with a lot of World Touring Car champions. It will be one of the best championships ever, I am really excited to start.”
Girolami will make his WTCR / OSCARO debut at WTCR Race of Morocco in Marrakech from 5-7 April. WTCR Race of Netherlands takes place from 17-19 May.
