Michelisz thanks Farfus for WTCR podium swap
Norbert Michelisz has thanked fellow Hyundai driver Augusto Farfus for giving up his third place in Race 3 at Zandvoort on Sunday – a move that could prove decisive in the final WTCR / OSCARO title reckoning.
Farfus was running a season-best third in the closing counter at WTCR Race of Netherlands until the order was given for the Brazilian to swap places with the chasing Michelisz, who is better placed in the title fight and scored three more points in his bid to win the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO for Drivers as a result.
“It should be Augusto [Farfus] sitting up here instead of me,” Michelisz said in the Race 3 press conference on Sunday evening. “He would have deserved to be on the podium, but it was a decision made that I could overtake him. Of course if you are the lucky one you take the possibility, but in the end the only thing I can say is congrats to the team and thanks to Augusto.”
Michelisz is fourth in the drivers’ standings, while Farfus is P12.
