Pole position for Jorge Lorenzo! The Spaniard looking to wrap up the championship in style and he claims his sixth pole of the year. Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso on the front row, with Rossi back in sixth.

0'

The chequered flag is out as Hector Barbera hits the deck - he is fine. Any last-ditch heroics?

1'

Lorenzo! He is behind at every split but finds something on the final sector to overhaul Hayden with a 2:01.537.

3'

Nicky Hayden goes quickest! 2:01.637 for the Ducati - amazing!

4'

Rossi is still faffing about in the pits and can hardly afford to waste time - he's fourth.

6'

Getting to the business end of the session now, as Dovizioso moves up into second place.

8'

Lorenzo goes back to the front, clocking 2:01.702. The Spaniard has dominated this session and he will almost certainly be world champion before the end of the weekend.

10'

Loris Capirossi is down in 15th but it is a gutsy display after that heavy crash this morning.

12'

Nicky Hayden is showing a bit of form today - he has just gone fifth ahead of the other Ducati ridden by Casey Stoner.

15'

Ben Spies! He is the first man under 2:02, and the Tech 3 Yamaha rider goes to the top of the pile! Thrilling stuff from the American. But can he cling on with a quarter of an hour remaining?

18'

Colin Edwards goes second with a 2:02.173, and Casey Stoner goes third! It's all starting to happen here.

20'

2:02.013 for Jorge Lorenzo - he is just inching away from the pack!

23'

Valentino Rossi has described as "stupid" the decision to delay tomorrow's race until 4pm local time as he fears it is more likely to rain, but at the moment the Sepang sky is virtually cloudless. A steamy day in Malaysia.

26'

How they stand: 1-Lorenzo, 2-Dovizioso, 3-Stoner, 4-Rossi, 5-Edwards, 6-Spies, 7-Simoncelli, 8-De Puniet, 9-Melandri, 10-Barbera.

29'

Valentino Rossi comes back into the pits after another outing. He is running fourth, a quarter of a second behind his colleague Lorenzo.

32'

Lorenzo shaves a few hundredths off his best time, with a 2:02.127.

37'

Not much movement on the leaderboard. Dovizioso is running an impressive second at the moment. Imagine what Dani Pedrosa might be able to extract from his Honda if he were here?

41'

Lorenzo onto provisional pole - 2:02.175. That won't be the quickest lap of the day, of course, but it is only a quarter of a second slower than the Spaniard managed this morning.

43'

Valentino Rossi is in the pits, deep in conversation with four different crew members.

48'

How they stand: 1-Stoner, 2-Dovizioso, 3-Rossi, 4-Lorenzi, 5-Simoncelli, 6-Edwards, 7-Melandri, 8-Barbera, 9-Spies, 10-Bautista.

51'

Valentino Rossi clocks the best time so far, a 2:02.619, but still about two thirds of a second slower than this morning's laps.

54'

Loris Capirossi had a big spill this morning and left the circuit on a stretcher. But the veteran has shown tremendous courage to get back on the bike and he is out on the track following team-mate Alvaro Bautista.

56'

There is no Dani Pedrosa this weekend of course - he is recovering from a broken collarbone. Just 16 bikes on the grid.

58'

The hour-long session is just a couple of minutes old, and already there are plenty of bikes out on the track, including champion-elect Jorge Lorenzo.
